蔣蓮 Jiang Lian

蔣蓮 (約1796-?)，字君先、香湖，別署薌湖居士、薌湖道人，約1796年生於廣東香山，活躍於道光年間 (1782-1850)。蔣氏擅畫人物，據說他生平愛好明代陳洪綬 (號老蓮；1598-1652)的繪畫，因此改名為「蓮」。他既學習陳洪綬畫中的古拙造型、線條和賦色等技巧，又師法唐寅 (1470-1523)、仇英 (約1494-約1552) 諸家。蔣氏尤其擅長繪畫設色仕女。他盛年的作品現大多藏於佛山博物館，題材以仕女和山林文人為主。他晚年的作品則大多收藏於廣州美術館和廣東省博物館。他的著作包括《劍光樓詩鈔》、《樂志堂文集》、《樂志堂書集》等。

Jiang Lian (c. 1796-?), zi Junxian and Xianghu, sobriquet Xianghu jushi and Xianghu daoren, was born in 1796 and was active in the Daoguang period (1782-1850). He was a native of Xiangshan, Guangdong province. Jiang was skilled in painting figures. It is said that he especially liked Chen Hongshou’s (sobriquet Laolian; 1598-1652) paintings, thus he named himself “Lian”. Jiang learnt from Chen’s style of archaic figure modeling, use of line and color. He also studied the works of Tang Yin (1470-1523) and Qiu Ying (c. 1494- c. 1552). Jiang particularly excelled in painting ladies in colour. Most of his paintings from his prime depict ladies and scholars in landscape. They are mainly found in the Foshan Museum. His later works are mostly collected by the Guangzhou Museum of Art and Guangdong Provincial Museum. His literary works include Jianguanglou shichao (Copy of Poems from Jianguanglou), Lezhitang wenji (Literature Collection of Lezhitang) and Lezhitang shuji (Book Collection of Lezhitang).
